Union Square Greenmarket

It was a pretty quiet Memorial Day weekend for me – exactly what I needed after a hectic May! My apartment is grateful for it too, it’s a lot cleaner than it was before, just in time for houseguests to arrive this week. I did get out a little on Saturday to see “Pitch Perfect 2” (tons of fun, made me want to see the first one again!) and on my way to the theater I stopped to get snacks at the Union Square Greenmarket.

Spotlight on Clinton Hill and Fort Greene

For my first few years in NYC, I lived in a big, poorly maintained apartment in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, with friends. I’ll save our horror stories for when I get around to writing about the hellish process that is apartment hunting, but the neighborhood (and the cheap rent) almost made up for the apartment’s deficiencies.

A donut here, a pumpkin there

I call the part of the state where I grew up “Western New York” because NYC natives call the whole state upstate and might think I mean Westchester. Also I just like Western New York better. If you drive fifteen minutes out of our suburb you start spotting farm markets all over. The area is full of them, which made this weekend—and every October weekend I’ve been at home ever—fun, and more importantly, delicious.
